Position: China Investment Adviser
Working Location: Shanghai
The official trade promotion and facilitation agency which is part of their government Shanghai consulate is seeking an Investment Adviser China.
Applicants need to be highly motivated, flexible and prepared to work in performance driven culture, be able to work with minimal supervision and be highly motivated to achieve stated objectives. Only be able to illustrate exceptional abilities in these areas will be considered.
They are seeking candidates with extensive business experience in China for this newly created position which is designed to strengthen the quality and consistency of the introductory and referrals advice it provides to companies from their country considering direct investment in China.
Key Responsibility
- Serve as a first point of contact within the consulate for the country’s companies (especially SMEs), who are investigating direct investment in China, providing authoritative and reliable preliminary advice and referrals to professional advisers within the market as and when appropriate.
- Survey and document existing best practice within the consulate’s network in advice of the type outlined above and arrange appropriate training of frontline to ensure the consistency and quality of advice provided by the service’s extensive network of offices across China and abroad.
- Build a network of strong and cooperative working linkages with service providers (legal, accounting, financial services and general business advice) to ensure that the service provides appropriate support to their work with the service investors in China
- Develop standard procedures to ensure that the company provides appropriate and effective referrals to service providers for clients considering or working on investment projects in China.
- Effectively promote the availability of the consulate’s investment-related services to companies via a program of outreach activities in China and abroad.
Selection Criteria
- At least 5 years experience structuring direct investments in China for foreign companies in a range of locations and industry sectors in either a corporate or advisory capacity.
? High level skills in dealing in the China business and government environment and providing practical and strategic advice to business operating within this complex environment.
? Proven ability to be outcome focused, think and act strategically and be an innovative problem solver, combined with good judgement in the context of working for a foreign government organization.
? Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to successfully represent the country and the service and the ability to negotiate and communicate at all levels of government and with other stakeholders.
? Willingness and ability to work in a “virtual office” environment working remotely from the central office location using information technology (laptop computer, mobile phone, internet access) to undertake work activities.
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake frequent travel within China together with an ability to work under difficult circumstances in a variety of locations in China
- Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is essential.
